During unit 2 I have researched artists and their work, the artists I looked at were Bernd and Hilla Becher, a German couple who travel around Germany taking pictures of things that are the same, but different. This is called a typology, they look the same but when they are put together you can see there is actually differences, all the photos they created were done in black and white, this gave the pictures more of an old fashioned vibe. This inspired me to do something like that, so I started creating pictures of things that were the same but had a different look to each other. I used things like bags, signs and bins.
I liked the idea of groups because I felt it was one that I would have the most ideas for, there is loads of things that are in groups so they would be good to use. I chose to photograph bins that were around the school, learning that they were all different in the own way, some had different shapes or sizes, some had different patterns, finding the bins was easy because having so many students in school who make litter we need a lot of bins. My favourite pictures I took were the staplers, perfumes and highlighters. I liked the pictures of the staplers when it had the light shining in the background, when I edited them on photoshop I changed the colour to black and white and messed about with the levels to make it darker and more dramatic.
I thought the bins also worked quite well because we can see they have a different background because of being it different places around school, and they all had there own shape or pattern to them. However I wanted to use the pictures of staplers for my final piece because they all looked good when they were put together on the white background and I felt they had the best focus and more of a final piece look to them.
